Symptoms
Scalp psoriasis can appear as scaly, red, bumpy patches, silvery-white scales, and dandruff-like flaking. Also itching, burning, and soreness or hair loss are all possible symptoms of scalp psoriasis.
Recovery
Dr. Harlan treats his adult patients for scalp psoriasis by first having them alternate between a salicylic acid shampoo with a ketoconazole or tar shampoo each day.
At night, he has his patients part the hair and apply SmartLotion® directly to the scalp. He recommends they put a shower cap over their hair in order to protect their pillowcase.
For severe cases, he will prescribe a prescription steroid to be applied at night.
His patients typically show dramatic improvement within 4 weeks.
